With its modern take on the Vietnamese bahn mi sandwich, noodle bowls and salads, Bun Mee opened in San Fransico in 2011 under the direction of Denise Tran. She moved from Vietnam to New Orleans when she was 2, and she grew up eating both American and Vietnamese cuisine. With this concept, Tran strives to integrate traditional Vietnamese flavors with familiar American flare. For example, she combines her two faves - sloppy joes and bahn mi - to bring her customers The Slopyy, made with red curry ground beef, house garlic aioli, shaved onions, Thai basil and jalapenos.
